Last Thursday as usual, my dear friend Sade and her adorable son joined us for dinner.  With them they brought Christmas gifts for us!  For the girls, a Solar Print Kit and for me (and David) a new mixing bowl for our Kitchen Aid Mixer! I have been coveting the glass mixing bowl for sometime and honestly did not think that we would ever own it.  Thanks to Paul and Sade, that dream is now a reality and so it only made sense to whip up a batch of our favorite cookies to try it out!

The clear bowl was a hit!  We all loved to be able to look through it and see the ingredients being mixed. Thank you, Paul and Sade for our lovely gift! It will be happily used for many, many, many years to come!

Being silly with your best friend!

"Can we bake cookies, mama?"
"Sure, baby."
And no sooner did I finish my sentence than she took off for the kitchen!

This was easily the best batch of Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies we had ever baked!  We've made some really incredible batches but there was something about this one that was just....better.  It was lovely to get to bake with my fabulous first born daughter.  She continues to amaze me each and everyday.  It won't be long before she's baking on her own.  Sigh.

The rest of the world knows them as Rice Krispie Treats. Here in our house they have become known as "sticky bars".  Grace and I (clearly on a creating in the kitchen kick this week) made a batch yesterday while Em was napping.

"I like sticky bars, mama!"
Creating in the kitchen with Grace while Em naps is becoming a usual event.
While I love baking with both girls, it's always such a treat to get to bake with each one individually.
Not only are we creating delicious treats, but we're making wonderful memories in the process!

Somehow I let time slip by this week without blogging all the wonderful things that we have done.  So in an effort to chronicle our doings of the week, I will "catch up" by posting more than one post today. There is just too much to fit all into one post!

The girls and I love to bake and any excuse to get together in the kitchen is reason enough for us.  Not long ago on my goddaughter Hannah's blog she posted her mother's recipe for cornbread.  I spent many, many days babysitting Hannah and her sister, Sara when I was a teenager.   Their house was like my second home, and I was always happy to be there, be it to babysit or just spend some time with everyone.  Since I am always on the hunt for wonderful homemade recipes to add to our collection, and since my connection with this fabulous family remains to this day, I knew that this recipe had to be tried.  On Wednesday, Mexican Lasagna was on the menu for dinner and I decided that the girls and I should make a batch of cornbread to go with it.

The girls were so proud of what they had made, and were super excited to share their creation with David when it was dinner time.
The cornbread was as easy as it was delicious, and will certainly be made for years to come. From no on, there will be no more boxed mix for us!
