Libby - Digital eBook Application Prototype for Swedish publishing house Natur & Kultur.

This is an application made by The Hyper Island students Cecilie Lund Madsen, Erik Öhlen, Fredrik Weinestad and August Björnberg.
The mission was to create an digital solution that would distribute and handle digital literature online and/or offline. 53 Colors created "Libby" that is an online/offline application for computers and mobile devices. The key features gives the user to buy/browse through Natur & Kultur's range of student and other literature, store the material on the web and externally, go interactive with other users in forums and reviews. Another tool that we focused alot on is the 'Reader' which gives the student tools to improve the speed and quality of their learning.

So worth it, is a Video made by a group of hyper island students.

Hi Nathan, Interactive Art Director student. Tell us about this vid:

- It was Created for Doritos Presents: Crash the Super Bowl. Johan Blomborg, Johan Dettmar, Erik Öhlen, Viveca Forsblom Ljungdahl and myself collaborated to come up with something fun and original for the brief. In the end, we created something between slap stick humor and David Lynch style storytelling. All in all we had a great time working together on the project.

As had been speculated earlier this week, Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers married his longtime girlfriend, Danielle Deleasa, on Saturday (December 19) at the luxurious Oheka Castle on New York’s Long Island. Kevin’s brothers Joe and Nick both served as his best man. Despite a blizzard the blanketed most of the Northeast, the ceremony went on as planned.

“We’re so happy that we’re finally married and we were able to share the special moment with family, friends and loved ones,” the couple, who held the wedding at the French chateu style estate, told People. 400 guests were in attendance, including Demi Lovato. Deleasa’s dad, Thomas, walked the bride, who wore a strapless tulle and chantilly lace Vera Wang gown, down the aisle. She also wore a silk-and-crystal flower in her hair — an homage to the flower she wore in her hair the day the pair met in 2007.

“The snow only made it look more like a winter wonderland,” Michael Russo, a celebrity event planner of Roses-n-Lollipops who worked with the couple for Saturday’s event, told People. The event had a fairy-tale-forest theme, including 14-foot trees covered in hydrangeas and crytals designed to look like icicles all under heated white tents. He added, “Danielle looked like a princess. Kevin couldn’t stop smiling.”

The pair exchanged traditional wedding vows as well as bands they designed for one another from Jacob & Co. At the reception, guests dined on Caribbean, Asian and Italian foods. “Kevin has said many times he feels like he met his princess,” Russo said. “To see them together you can feel the warmth and the love all around them. They are just perfect for each other.”

Jonas, 22, and Deleasa, a 23-year-old former hairdresser from New Jersey, got engaged in July. They met in 2007 while their families were vacationing in the Bahamas. At the time the band was still up-and-coming and Deleasa has admitted that she didn’t even know who the Jonas Brothers were. Kevin pursued Deleasa after he spotted her on the beach. “It still feels like a dream,” she told People about the engagement.

Congrats to the couple, now go have fun with each other.

Schools need to be aware of the demands and needs that exist in the industry and according to "Svenskt Näringsliv" Hyper Island "are right on the money"
–The idea is to keep school as close to the industry as possible, says Christian Olsson, Marketing Director at Hyper Island. The collaboration starts with the curriculum and all tasks and assignments are closely linked to "real" industry demand.
Christian also explains that the Hyper Island students take responsibility for their own development, but Hyper Island is supplying them with a "smorgasbord" of different opportunities.

Hey there, im aware that a lot of you want to make awesome blogs like mine and you want it to be famous with a lot of visitors....

but that requires a lot of work! i worked hard to get where i'm at right now, i didnt just take things from other blogs and lied that they were mine! i got my own stuff and if i took stuff from other blogs/sites i CREDITED THEM WITH A LINK redirecting to their site.

I've visited alot of blogs and a lot of them have the exact same posts that I have on here...

i say.... whats the point? whats the point of running a blog if all you do is take posts from other websites?? to make a good blog you need to put your own stuff. NOT pure stuff you got from other websites!

or else whats the point of running a blog if there are only posts taken from other blogs?
your just taking things and puting them on your own blog
whats the point of that?
your never going to make a famous blog like that...

There is a new feature on the Hyper Island website called video of the week. This is the latest published video, Motion Peace, a short piece by Motion Graphics Designer Linus Lundin, Claudio Salas, Oscar Höglund and Marte Breivik.

The results from the Concept & Development module in Stockholm was presented at Färgrabriken last week. The module was an exercise in taking an idea and turning it into a full scale business concept. The idea from the facilitators was to create a Dragon's Den-like environment to give the presentations an extra dimension. The dragon's were The Klara Kviberg, project manager, Tomas Seo, planner, & Göran Pallmar, investor.

Andrew and Zach from Goodby,Silverstein & partners came to Hyper Island Stockholm on Thursday 3 December. It was Andrew's first time here, and he was very pleased.

– It has really been great, Sweden and Stockholm is fantastic and the students here are golden!

Zach has visited Hyper Island several times so we asked him: Zach, how come you keep coming back all the time?

– I guess that it's because of the depth of understanding of new media that the students here have, and also the amount of tools they can use to channel their skills. We don't see this level at many other schools

– The international constellation of every work group is also part of the school's strength. I actually come here to meet the future of this industry, and to see what they're up to.

On our global tour to find the future talents of the digital media industry we have finally reached the Swedish capital. On Saturday 5 December the Hyper Island premises on Telefonplan, Stockholm will be open to all of you who think that you have what it takes. All you need to do is to apply for a seat at the recruitment day. Don't be a stranger.

See you in Stockholm!

The Digital Media students were told that the would not need their computers on friday 27. Why you might ask. Computer free day? digital is no good?

We've gone analogue today, the students joked as they took it to the streets (almost).

– The workshop was a part of the visual communication module. Last week was the first week of this module, and during the early weeks of each module we often had inspirational lectures and workshops. I must say that this was one of the most fun workshops we had so far at Hyper.

– We got to see how a graffiti artist works, and we had the opportunity to try it out by ourselves as well. Many of us had never worked with spray cans before, says Digital Media 11 student Hannah Willén.

The graffiti workshop in Stockholm could be seen as an unsusual day at Hyper Island. But a unusual day a Hyper Island is the usual.

Hyper Island's Mike Cordeiro and Micke Kazarnowicz together with Interactive Art Director student Layla Cavalcante

The Hyper Island Recruitment Tour recently visited Sao Paulo in Brazil
20 students showed up, 18 went through the whole recruitment process.

Some had been following us for some time, but most had recently found us as a result of our Recruitment Tour campaign. One of the major blogs in Brazil wrote about the tour, and after that post the potential students did some research on the net. The result was overwhelming, as we met about double the amount of students we had expected, since this was the first time we went to South America.

Photo: Christoffer-Robin Eklund, Motion Graphics Designer 2010 Karlskrona

George Giampuranus and Petula Bouchard at Sid Lee were interviewed by Hyper Island Students Andreas Kleiner and Michaela Sirilä.

Could you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you are doing @ Sid Lee?
George: Creative Director for Interactive and Partner with Sid Lee since 1999.

Petula: COO partner with Sid Lee since 1999

What makes Sid Lee different from other agencies around the world?
George: Simply put, it’s our integrated multidiscipline approach. It allows our to use the power of creativity in a much more comprehensive marketing mix to solve our client’s business objectives.

Whats your connection with Hyper Island?
George: We have been doing portfolio reviews in schools worldwide for a while now. Hyper Island pinged our radar when the Crew 12 site won an FWA three years ago. The relationship grew from there.

What makes Hyper different from other schools?
George: Clearly its the methodology. I have never seen an academic environment that nourishes a mix of “learn as you go” with critical analysis, problem solving and creativity in such a practical way. The resulting students are very much what the industry needs right now.

You came here during our experience technology module, why during this module?
George: To be honest, I didn’t even know what the module was when I came. I though I was only meeting the students to talk about their portfolio. I should have read the email :-). In the end, I was very happy to be a part of this module. I hope my comments were helpful to the students who were clearly working very hard on their assignment.

How many people from Hyper Island do you have working with you today?
George: Right now there are four. One in Montreal and three in Amsterdam.

You said today your were out looking for talented people, what is talent to you?
George: Talent is about being creative within constraints and to be able to find solutions that makes those constraints appear invisible. In other words, work within the brief. Also, you must be able to execute your solution in excellence. At Sid Lee, you have to get your hands dirty.

Petula: Talented people is people who are passionated in what they do, always one foot in head, who try some things differently and creatively

If you could name 3 things thats important for SID LEE what would that be?
Petula : people, people, people

Press release 2009 11 19

Two Swedish enterprises, the Swedish Rail (SJ) and the digital media school Hyper Island have joined forces. SJ takes the next step to enhance digital communication by becoming a Hyper Island Learning Partner.

We're proud to announce that SJ has been a Hyper Island learning partner since April 2009.

In a learning partnership the Hyper Island student's creativity and deep knowledge of the way to handle the digital media concept is combined with a partner's ambition to move on forward - to a bright future.

- The Hyper Island students have exceeded our expectations by far every time. The inspiration we got from the students is helping us in our day-to-day work to get closer to our objective: using the new digital media as our main media," says Maria Hoglund; Director Broad Media at SJ.

Her colleague ClaesLindholtz, Director Customer Program & Customer Analysis at SJ agrees:

- During the process of building a mobile phone prototype, the Hyper Island students where able to understand our rather complex IT and business demands, and turned it into a well-designed and user-friendly application. The prototype has recently been presented at the event
Oracle Open World in San Francisco, and got large attention as a social CRM tool.

SJ AB is the main player on the Swedish railway market with almost 50 percent of the total market shares and a turnover of approximately 9.03 billion SEK in 2008. SJ carries about 115 000 passengers every day.

- Working together with SJ has been incredibly rewarding for us as well
as a natural step in taking our Learning Partner concept to the next
level, says Mattias Hansson, CEO at Hyper Island.

Hyper Island

Hyper Island is a world leading authority on Digital Media and has been producing top industry talent since 1995. Our students work at the forefront of the digital media industry at leading agencies, around the word. At present Hyper Island has 289 students.
