When The Pawn... foi o segundo álbum de trabalho de Fiona Apple, lançado em Novembro de 1999. O título completo do álbum contém cerca de 400 caracteres, porém pode se resumir apenas em When The Pawn...
O título é um poema escrito por Fiona e diz o seguinte:
"When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king
What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight
And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring
There's no body to batter when your mind is your might
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
And remember that depth is the greatest of heights
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land
And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right".
O primeiro single, "Fast as You Can", teve um sucesso considerável se colocando no top 20 do Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. As outras canções de trabalho foram "Limp" e "Paper Bag",essa última recebendo uma nomeação no Grammy Award.
