To examine the OR-GATE operation by “Discrete Method”
Apparatus:
DC Power supply
Bread board
Connectivity wires
Resistances
Digital multimeter
Theory
A diode is a single P-N junction device with conductive contact wire holes and electrons present in it. So because of this there are two types of regions present in it which is based on the semiconductors and the other part is a P type semi conductor and N type represent the negative side which contains more quantity of electrons as compared to holes due to their characteristics, it contains electrons and act as cathode. On the other hand P-region which contains holes due to this act as anode. More over diodes are of two types:
1. Forward biased 2.Reverse biased
Connectivity wires help to gain the circuit with required terminal
Procedure
- First, I took diodes, resistances, power supply, connecting wires and bread board from the lab in charge.
- Then I determined the negative side of the diode. This silver band on one side of the diode tells the negative or N- side of the diode.
- After the determination, I put the diode in the bread board; the negative is joined in series.
- The resistance is connected at the join of the two diodes and grounded it which means it is at zero potential.
- The output is taken from the join of two diodes.
- When the input is applied at the input terminal of the diodes this si actually positive on p-side diode.
- There is two input terminals of the OR gate which are actually positive terminal of the diode.
- When the input is applied then I got the output according to the truth table. From the whole experiment, I got al the output values with the digital multimeter
- In the complete experiment, all the values were according to the truth table.
Conclusion:
After the completion of experiment, I concluded that “OR-GATE” is a definite electronic device which gives output “ON” when any one of its input is “ON”. It gives output “OFF”, when both of its inputs are “OFF”.
Application:
There are following applications of “OR-GATE”
Ø Automatic temperature control
Ø Automatic level control
Ø House safety alarm
