This evening, when I should have been making dinner, we decided to make oobleck instead. Oobleck, comes from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck. It is this strange substance that is both solid and liquid. It's really fascinating stuff and lots of fun to play with!
We started by pouring 1 cup of water into a bowl.
Then the girls took turns adding in scoops of corn starch and stirring.
We then added in green food coloring.
For some reason oobleck is traditionally green.
We stuck with tradition this time, although next time I think we should go for purple.
It's fun to get super messy!
The oobleck was very fun, but it was a little hard to work with.
So, we added a little more water to it to make it easier to play with.
And it was!
In the bowl it keeps its shape and feels solid.
But as you can see from Emma, it's also a liquid too.
Amazing.
The girls had fun poking at it, picking it up, squishing it and dripping it.
It's amazing how it can be so solid one second and runny and liquidy the next.
I do still wish though that we had made it purple.
There's always next time!
Have a wonderful night, friends.
We'll see you tomorrow.
