Our day began with a little blueberry picking. It was a mild morning. Perfect in every way. It called to be spent picking blueberries and we happily answered.
"Mama, do you know that I was born in the blueberries?!" And while she may not have been born in a blueberry field (which would have been truly delightful and totally fitting for this sweet soul) she was indeed born during blueberry season. She has been blueberry picking at this lovely farm every year that she has been on this Earth. After all, it wouldn't be summer without a trip to Indian Head Farm to pick blueberries!
Rockin' the sunglasses. Just because she can!
There are blueberry muffins (or maybe pancakes) in our future tomorrow morning, and lots of wonderful blueberry goodies throughout the fall, winter and spring. I think we might make one more trip to the blueberry fields just to make sure we have enough blueberries to get us through to the next blueberry picking season. It's always a delight to have a little reminder of the summer during our cold New England winters. A promise of things to come!

Today was the kind of day that just called out for us to visit the local berry patch and do some strawberry picking. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue, the clouds were puffy and perfect and the weather was just delightful. Not too hot, and not too cold. If there is such a thing as perfect berry picking weather this was certainly it!
And for as beautiful and perfect as the weather was today, it is just as perfect this evening. As I put this blog post together tonight the strawberry moon is over head, glowing its gorgeous strawberry color. What a truly perfect ending to our wonderful strawberry picking day.

The moral of the story is, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Eight pounds of blueberries in 45 minutes backs the above statement up, as does the delicious blueberry cobbler we made for dessert tonight!
From now on, we will stick with what we know (and love) and continue to support a fine farm such as Indian Head. The girls and I will most likely head back sometime next week for some more. One more batch should assure that we'll have enough to freeze and use throughout the winter and until next summer.
Sleep well, dear ones.
We'll see you tomorrow.

This morning, the girls and I get dressed in our strawberry picking finest and headed over to Indian Head Farm to eat pick our weight in strawberries! The weather was incredible, albeit a little on the humid side, and as an added bonus friends of ours joined us on our strawberry picking adventure.
It was a glorious way to spend a beautiful Friday!
Freezer jam and strawberry shortcake are on the agenda to be made tonight.
Our freezer in the basement truly becomes a treasure trove of goodies starting now with strawberry jam, and going to the fall when we'll add butternut squash to our stockpile. There is nothing like the taste of wonderfully fresh, local, organic food in the middle of the winter. A quiet reminder of things to come.
