Our day began with a little blueberry picking. It was a mild morning. Perfect in every way. It called to be spent picking blueberries and we happily answered.
"Mama, do you know that I was born in the blueberries?!" And while she may not have been born in a blueberry field (which would have been truly delightful and totally fitting for this sweet soul) she was indeed born during blueberry season. She has been blueberry picking at this lovely farm every year that she has been on this Earth. After all, it wouldn't be summer without a trip to Indian Head Farm to pick blueberries!
Rockin' the sunglasses. Just because she can!
There are blueberry muffins (or maybe pancakes) in our future tomorrow morning, and lots of wonderful blueberry goodies throughout the fall, winter and spring. I think we might make one more trip to the blueberry fields just to make sure we have enough blueberries to get us through to the next blueberry picking season. It's always a delight to have a little reminder of the summer during our cold New England winters. A promise of things to come!

The moral of the story is, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Eight pounds of blueberries in 45 minutes backs the above statement up, as does the delicious blueberry cobbler we made for dessert tonight!
From now on, we will stick with what we know (and love) and continue to support a fine farm such as Indian Head. The girls and I will most likely head back sometime next week for some more. One more batch should assure that we'll have enough to freeze and use throughout the winter and until next summer.
Sleep well, dear ones.
We'll see you tomorrow.

Dave's Mom is with us for the first part of this week and yesterday, I thought it would be fun for us to go blueberry picking. I checked the website of the place we always go and another place that we go for apples but have never picked blueberries there and decided to go with the "new" place. I posted this on my Facebook status in case any of our friends wanted to join us and we headed out. We arrived, were greeted by our friends, went and paid the fee for our desired amount and began the trek into the field,
only to discover that while there were certainly plenty of berries, none of them were what we would classify as ripe. So we headed to the other field where more blueberry bushes were located in the hopes that maybe there were plenty there.
As you can see from the container that Grace is holding we were no more successful in patch #2.
At this point, it was hot, sticky and generally gross. It was also clear that this trip was a bust. So Mary, being the good Long Island girl she is, gathered our containers and headed into the farm store to see about getting our money back. She was indeed successful and we all headed home happy for having spent the morning together, but sad at our less than successful trip blueberry picking. I think we'll try again next week, at the place we all usually go to pick berries and leave the orchard as the place we go for apples!
