My Grandfather came to visit my parents for a few days, and my Mom surprised him with a visit to our house after she picked him up at the airport today.  He was over the moon that he got to spend time with us, and even more thrilled that Kaitlyn and Eric could join us for dinner!  What a treat to have four generations under one roof tonight!  We are so happy to have had the chance to catch up with Grandpa.  The girls had a such a wonderful time with him that they did not want him to leave! Thanks for coming to visit, Grandpa!  Enjoy the rest of your time in New England and safe travels home.  We love you!

Tonight, right before dinner, Grace noticed that there was a pepper in our garden that was ready to be harvested. "Can I pick it, Mama?!" she asked.  Clippers were quickly found and we all headed down to the garden to witness the first harvest of the season!

On Saturday we gathered to celebrate all the July birthdays in our family.  We have done this each year since Grace's first birthday, and it is always one of the highlights of the summer.  In the span of eleven days we have four birthdays, and since my Mom's birthday is the last one (and happens to be today) it seemed only fitting to make this our blogpost of the day.

The day began with a gift for Grace (and Emma) from Dave's parents and sister and her husband.
A new sandbox!  The girls have missed having a sandbox since they outgrew their turtle shaped one.
There is so much more room in this one (and the cover that goes up and down too is fabulous)!  The girls can't wait to show their friends the new addition to the yard!
The four July birthdays are: Dave (on the 15th), Grace (on the 16th), Grant (on the 19th) and Mom (on the 26th). Emma is serving as the stand in for my brother who was unable to join in the celebration this year.  We missed you, Grant!
Gifts for Gramma from her girls!
Grace was so excited to have a new bike basket and bell for her fabulous new bike! Thanks Aunt Kaitlyn (and Eric) for making that dream come true!
Kait's gift to Dave (spending time golfing and skiing with her)!
It was (as always) a very special day!  The time spent together and memories that are made are easily the best part of the celebration!  Many happy birthday wishes to everyone celebrating a birthday this month. May this be your best year yet!

Our Unplugged Sunday started with a request that Daddy paint their nails.  When you're a daddy of all daughters that's how you roll.

After everyone's toes were painted (mine included!) we got ready and went to a lovely brunch at Old Sturbridge Village with Dave's side of the family before they headed back to New Jersey. They were up for the annual July Birthday Celebration which I will post about tomorrow. If you have never had the Sunday Brunch at OSV, make a reservation now.  You'll be glad you did!
After we said our good-bye's we headed home to get ready for the next part of our Sunday.  Next up:a visit with our dear friend Kristin who we do not see nearly enough.  The girls. however, decided that naps were in order and immediately fell asleep in the car (and some of us continued it at home too).
Five chicks hangin' out!
This is one of those friendships that no matter how much time passes we just pick up right where we left off!  Oh, how we wish we lived closer to Kristin!  Such a dear, dear friend she is!  Our visit with Kristin was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend!  Thanks everyone for making this weekend so much fun!

Our Day

Today there was:
reading.  By ourselves and with good friends.
sprucing up of the nature table and adding a new addition to it (the beautiful postcard)!  There was also some serious dreaming of things that would be great to have for our nature table being done by this mama.  Oh, the possibilities!
time spent outside.  Though due to the high temps and humidty not nearly as much time out there as we would have liked.
and time spent creating things for a very special persons birthday on Friday!
And so begins the week leading to Dave and Grace's birthdays.  A week filled with wonderful preparations and ending with lots of cake!

We have been participating in Unplugged Sunday these last few weeks and really loving it! Our evenings have been acoustic for awhile now, and it has been lovely to devote all of Sunday to living that way too! The last couple of Sundays have had us traveling to Connecticut to meet up with my parents for various reasons (last week it was to pick up my fabulous new camera, this week it was to pick up the absolutely gorgeous birthday ring that my Dad made for us to use in our birthday celebrations)!  Today, we met in Bushnell Park to ride the carousel and enjoy this completely gorgeous day!
