Today is my birthday, but it will always be remembered as the day that Emma cut her own hair. Yes, friends, that's right, Emma chose to celebrate my birthday by taking matters into her own hands today and chopping off about ten inches of hair from the left side of her head. The funny thing is, last night I took a lovely picture of her smiling her great, big beautiful smile. Little did I know it would be the last time we saw her with her long locks.
And a little over twelve hours later, a new look:
She was very proud of herself!
"Mama, I cut my hair. In my room. Myself!"
This was going to need some special tending to. And it was one of the many times that I have wished that my parents did not live so far away. After briefly toying with the idea of putting the girls in the car and heading to Connecticut to have my mom give Em an adorable pixie cut to go with her personality, I realized that it would be better to stay put and find someone local to do it. The questions remained: Could I find someone like my mom to do this? And where would I find this person? So, I did what any modern mama would do. I turned to Facebook and within seconds had an answer. According to our friend Steve, The Village Mane in Southborough was the place to go! I called them up, booked an appointment and we headed in.
We arrived and the girls were thrilled! They had never been to a "beauty shop" (as they called it thanks to Max & Ruby) before and were so excited! They checked out the magazines and chatted with the ladies as we waited our turn. Finally, it was time. We followed Debbie back to her area, she got all set up and then got right to work giving Em a beautiful new look. The other stylists and customers were quite taken with the girls and chatted with them and reminisced as we waited for Em's haircut to be finished. They all smiled that smile that welcomed me to the "club". The smile that meant they had been through this too with their own littles back in the day. Em did great! She loved that there was a little TV (tuned to The View, of course) and she loved that there was a mirror to look in while her hair was being cut. She sat very still and would occasionly smile at her reflection. As soon as Debbie had finished cutting her hair, Em smiled a great, big smile. Clearly, she loved her new look!

As you can see, Grace even got in on the action and had her bangs trimmed!
What a day it was! Sunny, gorgeous (warm, finally!) and full of new adventures! We are happy to report that we have found a fabulous new place to get haircuts and are looking forward to many more visits there. Em has been proudly telling everyone every where we go how she cut her hair and went to the beauty shop afterward. She is in love with this adorable new hair cut, which indeed fits her personality to a T! When Dave arrived home this evening, they took me out to dinner at The Wayside Inn, where once again it was reported to everyone we met that she cut her hair. It was a delightful day. Full of sunshine, blue skies and time spent with my incredible family! I am one lucky mama!

It was a most fabulous day, filled with wonderful new birthday traditions (more on that tomorrow) and topped off with a celebration with our family of friends. We are blessed beyond measure and it was the perfect way for Emma to begin her next trip around the sun!

Three years ago this very night, I tucked your sister in for the last time as an only child. Little did we know that life was about to get even more amazing than it already was. So, it is only fitting that tonight (like every night) we wish you a good night, sweet daughter. For when you wake up tomorrow you will be three years old and we just know that the next three years will be even more magical (and amazing) than the last three have been! Sweet dreams, sweet, joyful girl! We'll see you in the morning! There are many more adventures to be had!

Both sides of our family gathered today in celebration of Emma's birthday this coming Monday! It's hard to believe she's turning three (but we'll save those thoughts for the post on Monday). The day started with a trip to the farmer's market (like any other Saturday) and pretty much as soon as we returned home she got dressed in her fabulous birthday dress from my mom.
Calling Gramma to thank her for her fabulous party dress.
The girls were very excited to see that Dave's parents had arrived.

Grandma made a Raggedy Anne cake from Em. She used to make cakes like these when David and Donna were kids and was so thrilled to get to do this again.
And of course, no celebration in February is complete without a cake for Kaitlyn!

Our weekend started out with a lovely party for the girls friend Abby who turned four. Grace and Abby have been the best of friends since they were 8 weeks old. Now, if only Miss Em had not been so crabby, she and I could have stayed and enjoyed all the fun. The poor little has not been her normal happy-go-lucky self lately. Not sure what is going on, but I do hope that whatever it is passes soon.
We were supposed to attend a second party after naptime for the girls' friends Faith and Hope, but due to Emma's crabby mood we decided to decline. We were sad to miss out since the girls adore them and don't get to see them as much as they used to, but there was not way I could bring a crabby toddler to a party. Grace and Faith have been friends since Sarah and I were pregnant with them (and due a day apart)! So, since we were missing the party, and Dave was at the Red Sox game, we were in need of something yummy for dinner. We headed out, got some dinner and then went to Berlin Farms for some ice cream and a visit to the animals.
Nothing says Sunday Morning like a family pillow fight! Now, if only I had my camera near by to document this wonderful beginning to our day! Dave then had to head in to work for a bit so we decided that breakfast out was in order, along with an adventure afterward for the girls and I.
It was an most perfectly beautiful Sunday and we were thrilled to discover that Drumlin Farm opened at 9:00am!
A little lunch time fun with food topped off our a fun filled, joy filled day. And in case you were wondering, those are Shiro Plums that I pitted that they are putting on their fingers.
